For Colored Girls...

I think there are all types of oppression in this novel, and I appreciate the intersectionalities as each woman faces many types of oppressions at one time. Some oppressions include sexism which was seen through domestic violence and rape. Sexism was also seen through the power between men and women. Racism was also evident as the Lady in Brown described her experiences and struggles growing up being a woman and African American at the same time. In terms of internalized oppression, there was definitely internalized sexism from the abandonment and emotional and sexual abuse in the novel.  However, this later becomes a form of strength. Another form of internalized oppression is what the women felt about themselves and their self-worth. The women did not think they were on the same level as men as they let the men control their lives. Also, another type of oppression was the struggle with abortion as she was raped.
