The themes of feminism is shown through her culture of how men treat women as inferior and even as sex objects. She discusses the struggles of women while tying it back to her identity as a Palestinian and talks about the intersectionality of her identity as a minority. As for themes in love as resistance, I loved these two stanzas.
I did not want to write this
type of poem again poem
places political before beautiful
but swallowing anger burned
a hole in my soul this poem
has kept me up this poem
will not lend itself easy
to revisionist history
nor to sleep
This poem begging to be
beautiful poised
articulate this poem
palestinian and too late.
These stanzas really embody her love, hate, anger, passion, etc. for her homeland. The stanzas truly capture her thoughts and the oppression she feels from the place that she also loves. There's so much emotion in this, and the words are so beautifully crafted.
